Antigua and Barbuda is an island state in the West Indies. In September 2017, Hurricane Irma destroyed most of Barbuda’s buildings and infrastructure. When most inhabitants evacuated to Antigua, Barbuda became empty for the first time in modern history. Its flag was adopted in 1967 to mark the dawn of Antiguan and Barbudan self-government.
