The Bahamas is an independent Commonwealth realm and features more than 700 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean. Its national flag, adopted in 1973, has unfortunately become a symbol of poor seamanship when flown due to the fact that vessels can be registered in the Bahamas “without difficulty” and therefore use the Bahamian flag as one of convenience.
